Multiple new-build or significantly refurbished dwellings or extended housing projects of three or more units completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025. Must include three or more units.
House renovation
Outstanding refurbished homes that have been completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
House extension
An outstanding extension added to an existing home that has been completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Civic project
New-build or significant extension to and/or refurbishment of civic buildings, including civic centres, places of worship, community buildings, council buildings, visitor centres, libraries, sports halls, swimming pools and leisure centres, or any building containing a significant public-facing facility and completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Cultural project
New-build or refurbished cultural projects completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025 that promote culture and the arts, including theatres, archives, cinemas, museums, stadiums, art galleries and music venues.
Workplace project (small)
New-build, refurbished and retrofitted workplaces, offices or studios that are less than 1,000 square metres and completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025. Includes laboratories, research buildings and office campuses.
Workplace project (large)
New-build, refurbished and retrofitted workplaces, offices or studios that are more than 1,000 square metres and completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025. Includes laboratories, research buildings and office campuses.
Leisure and wellness project
New-build projects or significant refurbishments or extensions of a building used for leisure, health and wellbeing. Includes hospitals, doctors' and dentists' surgeries, care homes, clinics and spas completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Education project
New-build or refurbished projects for early years provision, primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities and other further or higher education institutions completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Heritage project
Refurbishment, retrofit or extension of historic buildings completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Hospitality project
New-build or refurbished projects, including bars, restaurants and hotels completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Infrastructure and transport project
New-build infrastructure or refurbishment and upgrade work of existing facilities where the projects exhibit a significant spatial or structural design emphasis such as underground, rail or bus stations, bridges as well as buildings constructed to deliver public utilities. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Small project
Any standalone project up to 150sqm and with a contract value of £400,000 and under, including pavilions, shelters, cabins, open-air structures, temporary structures, micro-homes, pop-up boutiques, kiosks and classrooms. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Mixed-use project
New build, extended or refurbished mixed-use developments designed for at least two distinct uses such as residential, commercial or cultural, completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Landscape and urban design
Landscape architecture or urban design projects, including masterplans and design for the public realm, completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.

Bespoke design
Furniture, lighting and other product designs that are bespoke commissions for a specific client or project. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Lighting design
Design of interior and exterior lighting (excluding office use). Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Architectural lighting design
Design of architectural lighting projects designed specifically for a building or structure including retail, business and educational spaces completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Surface design
Design of wall, floor, ceiling and surface coverings, including tiles, flooring, paint, wallpaper and other decorative surfaces and finishes. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Textile design
Design of textiles for the home, including fabrics, rugs, blankets, curtains, upholstery plus weaving, 3D knitting and other soft furnishings. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025
Workplace design
Design of furniture and lighting, including chairs, tables, seating, task lighting and storage solutions for workplace use. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Product design (consumer design)
Commercially produced products including mobile phones, televisions, cameras, laptops, tablets, drones, gadgets, robotics, appliances, water bottles, sports and exercise equipment, luggage, bicycles, cars, motorcycles and transport-related accessories. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Product design (health, wellbeing and wearables)
Products designed to improve the health and well-being of the user and designs which can be enjoyed equally by consumers of all abilities and identities. For example: assisted living products, medical devices, personal health products and technology used as part of a healthy lifestyle. This could also include sports and exercise equipment, toothbrushes, sex toys and beauty equipment. Work that requires regulatory approval to be commercially released must have this approval granted at the time of submission. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Product design (bathroom)
Any mass-produced product for the bathroom including baths, showers, toilets, sinks, taps, and built-in furniture. Graphic design
Visual communication design including typography, illustration, brand identity, signage, wayfinding, information graphics and graphic design for websites, digital platforms and apps. The graphic elements will be judged and not the UX or UI design. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Installation design
Installation projects for interior or exterior spaces, including set design, trade fairs, and fashion shows, as well as art, design and light installations. These can be temporary or permanent. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.

The winner of each of the above categories will automatically qualify for the chance to win overall design project of the year.
Sustainable building
New-builds that excel in their approach to sustainability, including zero-carbon or negative-carbon projects, zero-energy projects, circular projects, reversible buildings or buildings that employ environmentally friendly construction techniques, materials, energy sources etc. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Sustainable renovation
Renovations or retrofits of existing buildings to make them more efficient, which demonstrate both embodied and operational carbon savings and a holistic whole-life carbon approach to sustainability. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Sustainable interior
Interior designs that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability by using ethically sourced products, making use of recycled materials, or using innovative materials. Must be completed between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Sustainable design
Any product designed with sustainability in mind including products that follow circular principles or that reduce their impact on (or benefit) the environment. Can include products designed for the consumer market as well as building products where the innovation delivers carbon reduction or improved climate resilience. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Material innovation
New or improved materials that significantly reduce embodied carbon or by using circular economy principles where waste is designed out and materials are re-used. Any bio-material that could shape the future of construction, interiors and design, for example, mushrooms, seaweed, coffee and cellulose, can also be entered. Products must have been exhibited as final prototypes or have gone into production between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2025.
Sustainability Project of the Year
The winner of each of the above categories will automatically qualify for the chance to win overall sustainability project of the year.
The Bentley Lighthouse Award
This person must be curious and courageous in their approach, and their work must demonstrate a restlessness through which they seek to create a better world. Their contribution must have made an overwhelmingly beneficial impact within social and environmental sustainability, inclusivity, and/or community empowerment, such as a game-changing innovation or initiative that has been shown to demonstrably reduce its impact on the planet, for example by using fewer materials or non fossil-fuel energy sources. Entrants will be nominated by Dezeen Awards judges and Dezeen’s editorial team.
