Shortlisted for house of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Beacs by Studio AC is a renovated Victorian-era residence in Toronto featuring a pair of floating timber-clad bedrooms.
The apartment is located in Beaconsfield residence, a property built in the late 1880s in Toronto’s Queen West and Little Portugal area. The project involved preserving the heritage-listed facade and completely overhauling the interior, which the studio describes as a fusion of old and new.
It features a new staircase with a solid wooden balustrade, which blends in with birch plywood wall paneling and white oak floors, two new bedrooms as a pair of wooden volumes, two bathrooms, and a sightline which extends from the front to the rear of the house.
