Shortlisted for rebirth project of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Coal Drops Yard by Heatherwick Studio is shopping complex located within the King’s Cross development.
The complex was built by converting and extending two 19th-century industrial warehouses, which were originally used to store coal that arrived by rail from northern England. The two roofs of the structure, which were in need of repair, were redesigned to stretch out and meet one another. Coal Drops Yard contains 9,290 square metres of shops and restaurants, arranged inside the linear two buildings on either side of a central space.
