Shortlisted for large workspace interior at Dezeen Awards 2019, Gusto by Gensler is the new headquarters for HR software company Gusto, which has transformed a huge industrial building.

Berkeley-based Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects oversaw the adaptive reuse of Pier 70's dilapidated structures into usable spaces, while complying with heritage listing requirements.

Inspiration for the design was found in the living room-like waiting area of a historic train station revitalisation project, and the team looked at ways of translating this furniture and architectural relationship to the building conditions at Pier 70.

Along the centre, the full height of the space was kept open up to the metal truss roof. This area is treated like a massive lounge with sofas and desk areas for employees to use for casual working and informal meetings.
