Shortlisted for apartment interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Very Studio created a generous open space at the heart of this apartment for a family of four in Taichung, Taiwan.
This 200-square-metre apartment, which was once claustrophobic and dark with too many walls and poor air circulation has been transformed into a bright, airy and spacious dwelling for a growing family.
The architects removed unnecessary walls and added new ones following a pentagonal pattern, which can be compared to the petals of a flower, brightening the space. Marked by shallow, domed ceilings supported by wide arches it was designed to ensure sound privacy and a spacious feel.
The apartment also features a bespoke kitchen counter, several lounging areas and minimalist interior decorations, which match with the white floors, ceilings and walls to ensure a bright and airy feel.
