Shortlisted for hotel and short stay interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, SWEETS hotel by Space&Matter comprises 8 separate bridge houses transformed into individual hotel suites across Amsterdam.
The tiny buildings, some with a floor size as small as 12m2, were not originally designed to accommodate people but to provide a working space for Amsterdam's bridge keepers.
Combining modern initiatives with industrial heritage, these once redundant houses now form a city-wide hotel of individual, fully equipped rooms with amalgams of vintage and contemporary furnishings. The tiny, two-person rooms feature built-in shelving and integrated en-suite bathrooms as well as warm colour palettes, copious wraparound windows and laminate wood flooring.
