Shortlisted for apartment interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, SUPRBLK have transformed an old biscuit factory in Bethnal Green, London into a two bedroom home with an office.
The refurbishment aims to revive the architectural characteristics of the original baking room. Using inhabitable pods to divide the rooms rather than conventional walls, the studio turned a 60-square-metre space into a 81-square-metre modern home with two bedrooms and a kitchen, office, living room, bathroom, guest bed as well as a small storage cabinet.
With this project, SUPRBLK challenged the standard formula of London living by emphasising space, natural light penetration, volume and flexibility. The design ethos of the apartment sought to embrace existing scars, and utilise materials to their full potential by crafting them carefully to accomplish a lot with a little.
