Shortlisted for rebirth project of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, The Forest BIG by Divooe Zein Architects is a mesh-covered educational events space in Taiwan.
Previously an abandoned house, the building now accommodates a kitchen space, workshops and classrooms. The netting also forms a 300-metre-long looping corridor surrounding the building, which forms a ring-shaped gallery and provides a soft boundary for the project. Divooe Zein Architects created the space in a wooded area of the Shangri-La Park to encourage interaction with nature. An installation-like arrangement of rocks provides a focal point in the centre of the space, alongside outdoor classrooms, garden spaces and a pond.
