Shortlisted for housing project of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, The New Brick Tectonic by Muñoz Miranda Architects is located on a beach in Malaga, Spain.
The residential building is situated next to a protected early 20th century smokestack, indicating the industrial activity in the area at that time. The architects chose to use bricks in order to create a dialogue with the industrial smokestack. The new building technique makes the architecture contemporary, forming an abstract facade using glass fibre reinforced concrete. Two indoor shared courtyards are covered with a white corrugated sheet, forming the access corridors to the dwellings.
