Shortlisted for civic and cultural interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Emma Olbers Design has refurbished the Old Library at the Swedish National Museum for Art and Design, which underwent major renovation works over the past five years.
Paying special attention to environmental sustainability, the designer used materials with low carbon emissions, such as wood and carbon neutral, fast growing fibers.
The century-old interior is complemented with new design, and the fixed bookshelves have new display units for small exhibitions. Inspired by old reading rooms and the typical green colour used in libraries, the designer also created a room for rest and reflection.
