Shortlisted for business building of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Vanke Design Community plot A4 + B2 by FCHA form part of the new Vanke Design Community in Shenzhen, China.

The masterplan for the new design community, developed by Urbanus and owned by developer Vanke, features a campus-like park of concrete offices topped with green roofs. FCHA's two plots, which sit on a gently sloping site along the eastern side of the park, provide green, park-like spaces at ground level, and well-lit workspaces beneath. The A4+B2 plots contain exhibition and conference spaces, offices, a workshop, and a lecture hall. The studio wanted to maintain a balance between providing public green space on the roof and a good environment for underground office space. Public activities can take place above or beneath the large green slope that connects the ground level to the basement level.
