Designed by James Walsh, Anthropic Bench explores the use of rammed earth and glass particles.
In 2018, China implemented a ban on the importation of various waste materials, which has left many countries stockpiling and struggling to create commercial opportunities with this shift, including Australia.
The focus on glass and rammed earth potential is to avoid the embodied energy that is typically associated in its reuse and reformation.
Traditionally rammed earth will include sand, silt, clay and a stabiliser such as cement, however the Anthropic Bench demonstrates a stable combination of materials, with an inclusion of a 10 percent ratio of glass particles.
This project has been longlisted in the seating design project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
