Japanese studio Sides Core has designed a speciality bakery located in the Ekie shopping complex in Hiroshima.
The production line of cheese tarts connecting the entire process from baking preparations to sales is placed around the central pillar, and the factory is completely encased in a glass package with rounded corners.
Customers can see the entire production process while waiting in line, and can enjoy fresh-from-the-oven cheese tarts in the eating area after buying them.
Copper evokes the image of warmth associated with freshly baked tarts in addition to serving hygiene purposes, and cement mortar is used as the contrasting background highlighting cheese tarts and the copper counter.
This project has been longlisted in the small retail interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
