Architecture studio Manea Kella has transformed a listed building into a hotel within the historic Hellenic quarter of Brăila, Romania.

Casa Popeea is a boutique hotel that transforms the space, light and charm of a historic building while balancing it with the contemporary needs of its guests.

A pragmatic approach to the brief and context was undertaken, working with the original building rather than against it.

Articulate, richly-detailed and filled with space and light, Casa Popeea boutique hotel is recognisably contemporary, yet of its time and place.

This project has been longlisted in the hotel and short stay interior project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
