Lewis Power and Anthony Forsyth have designed a table lamp that draws on the industrial heritage of cast-iron in the north-east of England.
The lamp was developed in collaboration with William Lane & Sons foundry, –whose history goes back to the industrial revolution – as a way to celebrate this neglected material and heritage.
This is reflected in the form of the lamp; for example, in the way the scalloped fluting on the base acknowledges the classical references often employed in cast-iron structures. While there is a heft and raw materiality to the lamp, it emits an intimate light.
This project has been longlisted in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
