Aalto University created an exhibition that explores the combination of design methods and chemical engineering.
At Dutch Design Week 2019, Chemarts showcased wood and cellulose-based material experiments and prototypes, which are completely toxic-free, recyclable and do not release microplastics. These prototypes may offer future alternatives to plastic and fossil materials.
Chemarts is led by Aalto University's Professor of Practice in Design Driven Fibre Innovation Pirjo Kääriäinen and Professor of Wood Chemistry Tapani Vuorinen.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
