Wallace Liu has transformed a former large steelworks shed into Chongqing Industrial Museum in southwest China.
By breaking down the exhibition journey into a series of spaces that travel through the existing structures and around the open public foundation hall, the design invites visitors to explore and observe the existing features whilst completing their composed exhibition narrative.
The materials and colours chosen, and the aesthetics of the large perforated metal curtains supported by tall truss-like structures, come from observations on site, and intentional compositions with the ruin-like post-industrial context.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
