Digitalab has developed a system that can create products from cork thread called CO-RKS.
CO-RKs is a system created by Digitalab and Casa Grigi that generates design products based on the connection between computational and algorithmic processes, and the sustainable and versatile cork thread material.
This system can create objects such as lamps, chairs, tables, and exhibition spacial systems.
Cork thread is a unique and innovative product, non-fibrous and 100 percent naturally developed. The material has the natural colour of cork and the way it looks is very similar to jute. This thread was created for application in fashion, more specifically in the textile industry.
Currently, this material can be produced with a thickness of up to 1 millimetre or more, while maintaining its resistance to abrasion and stress-related wear and tear. It’s a robust, comfortable material, resistant to light traction and it’s also washable, keeping all the original physical properties of cork.
In addition to its aesthetic and technical properties, cork thread is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
