McLean Quinlan upgraded a rural home-for-life into a contemporary Passivhaus, bringing new life to a historic walled garden.
The design is simple and clean: the low-energy home sits behind a traditional brick front, complementing the brickwork of the old garden wall.
The house has a glass-roofed winter garden at its centre, which floods light into the interior. Spaces have been arranged around this so the building functions both as a home and a gallery for ceramics and art.
This project has been longlisted in the rural house project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
