Sudraba Arhitektüra has converted an abandoned 20th-century railway warehouse into a concert hall in Latvia.
Called Hanzas Perons – which translates as Hanza Platform – the venue is in a cargo warehouse that was formerly part of a large freight railway station on the edge of Riga's historic city centre.
The project combines old and new elements, where charm of the heritage and innovations of the new architecture blend in harmony; where respect for history is reflected in elaborate modern solutions, giving new life to the old.
The old warehouse has been upcycled into a multipurpose venue: for concerts, exhibitions, banquets and other gatherings.
The studio has preserved textures and details from the old building and added a minimalist material palette of concrete, terrazzo flooring, steel and glass.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
