John Wardle Architects has designed a curved apartment complex based on Collingwood's old grain silos.
The building draws on the dynamic local culture, history and architecture for inspiration. The curved concrete slab edges and the balconies reflect the imprint of the silos and appear as a series of continuous sweeps around the entire building.
The retention of the existing fabric, the articulated brick podium and the arched balconies, combine to provide a considered addition to the neighbourhood. A robust material palette of brick, concrete, steel and glass impart a strong contemporary aesthetic.
This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
