Longlisted for emerging architect of the year at Dezeen Awards 2020, Kooo Architects is an architecture studio founded by Shinya Kojima and Ayaka Kojima in 2015.

Kooo Architects is a small-sized international practice based in both Japan and China, with three offices of five to nine employees in Tokyo, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Projects are assigned without regard for locations accordingly, opening up opportunities for constant remote communication. Often a project requires cross-team collaboration, ensuring that despite the distance, all team members are always well-informed and functions as one group, of each individual encouraged to share their perspectives and add their own flares to the works, pushing projects forward collectively.

In addition, members are brought together even closer through occasional exchange, where designers from one office will be given opportunity to work in another from time to time, further stimulating team dynamics and new ideas.

Kooo Architects has been longlisted in the emerging architect of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
