Krushi Bhawan is a government facility that also accommodates spaces for community engagement and learning in Odisha, India.

The facility has been designed to transcend the typical closed-off office campus morphology by integrating governmental functions with direct community engagement and education.

Manifesting the idea of decentralised state power, Krushi Bhawan derives its visual identity from local materials and vernacular narratives, expressed in a manner that is responsive to the local climate.

The design integrates passive and low-tech climate control mechanisms, limiting mechanical air-conditioning to only 20 percent of the built spaces.

The building's spatial programme engenders inclusivity and exemplifies how a government can facilitate patronage for regional craft and sustain indigenous communities and economies.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
