Studio Mabb has converted an Italian farmhouse into La Ganea restaurant in Villachiara, Italy.
The sixteenth-century Palazzo Martinengo houses the bar, which provides beer, food and pizza. Ganea is the ancient name for Villagana, which in Latin means tavern: a point of rest for travelers and merchants.
The estate is subjected to specific restrictions by heritage superintendence, which is why the layout has been retained.
The materials selected for the project are mainly iron, cotto tiles and conifer wood, as a reference to the history of the estate and its surrounding region.
This project has been longlisted in the bar interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
