Ab Rogers designed Maggie's centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, which harnesses natural light to promote physical and psychological wellbeing.
The Maggie's centre in Sutton is one of the latest architect-commissioned care centres in the UK, created to offer non-medical support to people with cancer and their families. The centre is set in an idyllic garden designed by landscape architect Piet Oudolf.
The new centre comprises four glass-fronted fanning volumes wrapped in terracotta for its crafted and earthen qualities. Striations on the panels further enable the play of light and shadow across the building’s exterior.
This project has been longlisted in the civic building project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
