Dow Jones Architects has designed a Maggie's Centre in Cardiff, which features a series of angular roofs clad in weathering steel.
Maggie’s Cardiff makes a connection between the local topography and the industrial past of south Wales by using everyday local materials in a thoughtful and creative manner.
The building is located in a corner of the hospital car park, and is entered via a small courtyard garden that removes you from the bleakness of the situation.
The interior is calm, timber-lined and filled with natural light. The plan is organised to take you on a journey from the courtyard garden back to nature by framing the existing stand of trees that sit behind the building.
This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
