Barozzi Veiga has designed the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts Lausanne in Switzerland.
The museum is made from a monolithic volume, which is parallel to the railway, defining a new public space while protecting it from the trains' nuisances.
The project pays homage to the memory of the site, echoing the former industrial condition with pragmatic forms.
The MCBA is part of a broader masterplan by Barozzi Veiga, which implements a continuous public space where the architecture become the frame of urban life and the containers of the public art centre of Lausanne.
This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
