Robert Konieczny has designed a house in Poland that features a piece of kinetic architecture that tracks the sun's movement.
Quadrant House has been designed with a mobile rotating element in the garden space, between two arms of the building, which react to the movement of the sun.
Reacting to the movement of the sun, it can be an open, free-standing terrace or extension of the building. It may provide either desired sunshine or shade. When approaching, it changes the light of the interior, protecting it from overheating.
This improves the energy balance of the building with a pleasant microclimate, without the need for air conditioning. Kinetic solutions, unlike shutters, provide shade in rooms without losing the view and contact with the environment.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
