Austin Maynard Architects has built a family residence that merges two pre-existing terrace houses in Melbourne.
A glazed entry, set back between the heritage buildings, unites the two properties and forms the gateway to new architecture, surprising in light and scale.
Initially the home looks to be fanciful, but at its core the house is responsive, logical, contextual and strategic.
RaeRae is a functional home with nuanced moments of surprise and discovery – not for outward show, but for the occupants individual experience and changing needs.
This project has been longlisted in the residential rebirth category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
