Okamoto Deguchi Design has created a restaurant based on the Japanese custom of Hanami, which refers to annual flower viewings.
In Japan, Hanami is an annual event for reunion, where people sit down and enjoy delicious food with their family and friend under the blooming cherry tree.
Sited at the heart of Chaoyang district Beijing, the fine-dining Japanese restaurant was based on this idea and aims to create a hanami-like ambience.
Wood carvings on the facade of the private room visualise the shape of wind. Embedded inside the facade is a lighting system illuminated the shape of a cherry petal, depicting a scenery of floating petals.
This project has been longlisted in the restaurant interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
