CAUKIN Studio has built a school classroom, library and teacher's office after a cyclone caused devastation to the previous academic buildings in Vanuatu.

The building was constructed in eight weeks. It combines a heavy-duty timber frame, woven bamboo cladding, polycarbonate roofing and metal roofing sheets that create a strong, bright and well-ventilated learning environment.

The library space innovatively tackles the extreme humidity, through carefully considered passive design strategies, enabling the lifespan of the books within to be prolonged.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
