Senilia is a collection of lampshades that explores new applications for secondary raw materials, such as coffee silver skin and spent grain.
The collection was made possible through a close collaboration with local coffee roasters and beer brewing factories.
The Senilia collection aimed to develop a material that is fully biodegradable and recyclable. The leftovers are mixed with a compostable binder extruded under high pressure through a pipe.
This turns the material into a straight, tubular structure that is then handcrafted into irregular shapes and air-dried for several days.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
