Ternion is a housing complex that comprises three independent villas in Kuwait, designed by Studio Toggle.
Variably stacked prismatic volumes create a porous-pixelated massing, achieving a harmonious balance between the opposing ideals of privacy and community.
The architecture of the three villas is to be read as a whole, a series of hierarchical social spaces, organised based on their degrees of openness ranging from fully enclosed-silent gardens to vast terraces, opening to the streetscape and vistas beyond.
The inhabitable monolithic volumes are organised around these, creating portals, shields, or cantilevers; providing shade, protection, and frames the endless views from multiple vantage points.
This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
