The Folds is a community playground that challenges children's perception of landform and encourages tactile play in China's Jintan District.
The project has been designed with the notion of returning to the basics, through folding of spaces.
The studio deliberately minimised the use of playground equipment, believing that the folding landform can encourage children to explore the space with their hands and feet.
Children can run, climb, play hide and seek, and decide how to have fun by themselves. The architect's propose that the space should not be bound by function or programme, and should be characterised by instinct and exploration.
This project has been longlisted in the landscape project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
