System Architects has designed a twisting brick facade for a landmark building in New York's historic Tribeca neighbourhood.
The complex geometry is mirrored within, where an interior wall of twisted bricks anchor the building; its curves providing seating, shelving and even a fireplace. But the radical twists and folds are accomplished with standard-sized bricks.
The bold design was approved by the local Landmarks Preservation Commission in a rare unanimous vote. The result is a remarkable new type of building, one rooted in the area's past, signalling that a new era has arrived.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
