Vladimir Radutny Architects has renovated a twenty-eighth floor apartment to create an urban sanctuary for a couple in Chicago.
There is something very poetic about a space that exists in tension between domestic and monumental scales; a contemplatively refined sanctuary comprised of all the necessities of home while simultaneously bringing in the energetic and visually stunning high-rise skyline beyond.
By situating the space as a link between these two realms and building in flexible strategies that allow the inhabitants to vary degrees of openness and enclosure, the design creates a fully immersive urban experience.
This project has been longlisted in the small interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
