L&M Design Lab has transformed a kindergarten into a playful "woodland" in China's Yuanhui District.
The original building had limited space and heavily relied on artificial lights, which was against the common expectations of kindergartens.
The studio has created an experience that allows children to imagine "wandering in the woods," through columns and beams that appear as trees and bridges.
Continuous stairs and slides spiral up around the trees, connecting and activating spaces.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
