Yulin Alley is a community centre created to engage all five senses in order to cater for users with varying disabilities.

Yulin Alley is initiated by Disabled Persons Federation of Wuhou District and Yulin East Road Community, and has been planned, designed and operated by Nhoow Architects.

Apart from the barrier-free spatial detail design, the whole space especially aims to mobilise people's five senses. For example, the wooden interiors provides tactile warmth for visually impaired users to enter the space more easily.

An open kitchen has been designed to wake people up with the smell of food. Large doors and windows are designed to allow for a wider view, while bringing in more external sound and natural light, thus relieving the sense of sensitivity and tension.

More people with disabilities will be encouraged to take part in activities and more people can do more exploration attempts.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
