Public vote winner for bar interior of the year: Dongshang is a Japanese restaurant and bar in Beijing, made from bamboo in varying forms and sizes.

The project vision was to create a unique dining environment by intertwining Japanese aesthetics with elements of Chinese culture.

The traditional bamboo material, which has strong connections to arts and crafts of the two countries, covers the walls and ceilings to create an intimate ambience.

The natural and sustainable material symbolises the anti-urban philosophy in the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, and the interior evokes the feeling of dining within a bamboo grove.
