Shortlisted in the small interior of the year of Dezeen Awards 2020, Basic Coffee is a pink-hued coffee shop in Beijing, which features partitions arranged to frame customers enjoying their drinks.
As Beijing embraces a vibrant tea and coffee culture that offers a great variety of drinks, the design of these shops remain fixated on the open-plan typology to suggest an upbeat and friendly ambience.
Instead of opening up the space, our design takes an alternative approach to take advantage of a limited footprint, creating a sense of intimacy and solitude.
The semi-enclosed spaces contains the craft of coffee-making, channeling the sensory experience between maker and drinkers through a perforated veil.
