Winner: Hotel and short-stay interior of the year and Winner: Interior Project of the Year 2020. Atelier Tao+C has designed a capsule hotel and bookstore surrounded by mountains in Zhejiang Province, China.
The hotel has been built inside an old rammed-earth structure, with the addition of a glazed gable-end extension.
The full-height atrium is covered in translucent corrugated plastic panels that project from the eastern gable end of the original structure.
The architect has lined the walls of the hotel with bamboo bookshelves that are stacked inside a triple-height space, doubling as a library and a bookshop.
Judges comments: "Architecturally - it works with the existing building and village in a very clever way with the glowing translucent extension," said the judges on the interiors master jury.
"The resolution of the capsules themselves within the bookshelves - is both well crafted and meticulous."
