Chitra Vishwanath
Chitra Vishwanath is the senior architect and managing director of Biome Environmental Solutions, a multi-disciplinary firm in the field of ecological architecture and intelligent water and waste designs.
Born and schooled in Banaras, she moved to Nigeria to study Civil Engineering at Auchi Polytechnic, and later to Bengaluru to start her practice in 1991.
To Chitra, architectural practice is a serendipitous flow where every material and ecological challenge feed into in the design of an ecosystem.
She has been involved in teaching design too, conducting a workshop at Archiprix 2017 and running the Monsoon semester at the School of Architecture CEPT Ahmedabad in 2020. She was the Charles Correa Academic chair at Goa College of Architecture in 2018 and a design mentor at NITTE Mangalore in 2019.
She was also a member of the jury at the 2A Continental Architectural Awards Madrid 2019 and the Asia Edition of YTAA 2020 conducted by Fundacio Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona.
