Jasper Conran
Jasper Conran is a British designer. Having trained at Parson’s School of Design in New York, he produced his first womenswear collection in 1978 and was a founding member of the London Designer Collections.
He has diversified from womenswear into menswear, fragrance, accessories, collections for the home, interiors and the performing arts. He was appointed OBE for his Services to Retail.
Collaborations throughout his career include designing ceramic and glass for Wedgwood and Waterford, interior furnishings for Designers Guild, and a diffusion line, J by Jasper Conran, for one of the UK’s leading department store groups.
Jasper Conran’s debut book Country is a photographic and written portrait of a year in the English countryside.
He has designed costumes and sets for a total of 14 plays, ballets and operas; winning a Laurence Olivier Award for Jean Anouilh’s ‘The Rehearsal’. He has most recently worked with the Royal Opera House on Christopher Wheldon’s ‘Within the Golden Hour’.
Jasper Conran’s hotel, L’Hôtel Marrakech, is a 19th century riad in the heart of the medina. Designed with a decidedly personal stamp, it has been listed as ‘one of the best new hotels in the world’ by Condé Nast Traveller’.
Jasper Conran is an Honorary Doctor of Letters at Heriot-Watt University, a Visiting Professor at the University of the Arts London and an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law at the University of East Anglia.
