Experimental designer and artist Jessie French has generated a collection of bioplastic tableware, made using algae polymers and pigments.
The outcome of deep research in response to geopolitical inaction and the ubiquitous overuse of petrochemical plastic, French’s tablewares propose a bottom-up solution that can be implemented at home.
This tableware can withstand physical handling and hold objects, food and, for limited periods, hot or cold liquids.
French’s tableware is recyclable and can be readily made and remade into different objects infinitely.
These materials are completely biodegradable. If discarded, they can be composted in a home system and transformed into fertiliser.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
