Bat Trang House by Vietnamese architecture studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects (VTN Architects), is a house that combines modern architectural language with vernacular material.
It is located in Bat Trang, an ancient town that specialises in ceramics. The house is unique from its double skin with a red ceramic outer skin sourced from Bat Trang village.
It has effective shading and ventilation because of having three layers: the outer ceramic skin, the greenery, and the inside external layer. The red skin provides a local aesthetic, which is pleasing and also special to the surrounding. It celebrates the cultural identity of the community.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
