Against the backdrop of a government that underfunds affordable housing, AUAR Labs ran a series of workshops where local residents designed, fabricated and assembled a pavilion.
Called Block West, it is built from 145 digitally-fabricated lego-like timber blocks and speculates on alternative modes of housing production in the UK.
Under the guidance of research laboratory AUAR Labs from The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL and citizen-led digital arts organisation Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC), the local community in Knowle West "levelled up" to participate in questions about how automation can be used to address the housing crisis.
This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
