Studio Sain worked with one of Austria's last remaining woodturners to develop a collection of hand-turned wooden products that feature moving parts or modular components, as part of the Passionswege program for Vienna Design Week.
Countering the, traditionally, high level of decorative wood turned objects, Bulbous aimed to embrace the incredibly high level of precision of the handmade pieces and to approach the woodturning as a form of joinery, with movable, seamlessly fitting components.
Drawing inspiration from natural and mechanical joints, the Bulbous collection comprises a movable light, mirror and modular shelving system.
This project has been longlisted in the furniture design category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
