Studio Jan Vermeulen and Tom Thys Architecten have created an innovative housing project for vulnerable residents in Kortrijk.
The building provides new living models for young people with early-onset dementia and elderly people with stroke-related disabilities and somatic symptom disorder and combines this with additional welfare and neighbourhood services. The project repurposes a derelict historic villa and extends it with a new building that creates a link between the neighbourhood and a landscaped park in the middle of a city block, making it accessible for community activities.
This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
