Chicago’s Field Museum is home to plenty of fossils, but when the museum decided to enliven its representation of the Cretaceous period with elaborate, 3-D printed hanging gardens filled with living plants, suspended in its historic Stanley Field Hall, a unique lighting problem emerged.
The plants were dying, due to an inadequate lighting design. Through inventive and doggedly determined design work, Morlights created a unique solution that carefully nurtures the now-thriving plants, and turns the aerial gardens into a customisable, colourful lighting installation by night.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
