ARCity Office has transformed an old, abandoned powerplant from the 1980s in Shenzhen into a public space for local activities.
A sustainable design approach was adopted for the overhaul of the building. The old ruins, fragments, and remains were preserved, and the ruined structure was reinforced and recycled. New functional spaces were inserted into or wrapped around the ruins, blurring boundaries between the old and the new, and making the building a continuously growing organism.

This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
